The Salmon Arts Council is a 501<cx3) non-profit organization and your contribution may be tax deductible. This organization prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, or handicap or age.

The Salmon Arts Council (SAC) was organized in the kitchen of a Salmon household in the fall of 1978. Since that time it has grown from a group of five to a 13-member Board of Directors (volunteers); over 200 members, a paid part-time Executive Director; and office in the Salmon Valley Center, and an annual operating budget of $45,000. An Advisory Board, made up of "retired" Board Members; SAC members; and numerous "on call" volunteers all help make the Salmon Arts Council meet its commitment to the community.

Annual Programs

  • The Salmon Arts Council presents and sponsors many events during the year:

  • Dinner Theater

Salmon Arts Council Goals

The SAC Board has chosen to focus on the following goals over the next few years:

  • To provide opportunities for appreciation of and participation in the arts and humanities by presenting diversified programs.

  • To provide and encourage comprehensive arts education.

  • To increase involvement and cooperation with the community, other organizations, and cultural groups in strengthening the role of the arts in all aspectes of life.

  • To provide opportunities for the development of local artists.

  • To broaden and maintain the organization's finaicial base

  • To explore and develop a community center for arts and humanities.

In 1988, The SAC was awarded the Governor's Arts Award for Support of the Arts. The nomination was made by the local school district and the SAC became the second arts organization in Idaho to receive this prestigious award.

In 1990, The Salmon Education Association presented the Council with their "Friend of the Education" award for all that is done to further the arts in the schools.

Funding

The Salmon Arts Council is funded by:

  • Admission
  • Membership
  • Donations
  • In-Kind Contributions
  • Grants

(Idaho Commission on the Arts, the National Edowment for the Arts, and the Western States Arts Federation)

The number of local arts agencies is increasing as the arts become more basic in people's lives. This causes the grant dollars available to those arts agencies to decrease. Today more than ever, the future of the arts and humanities in our community depends upon you, or our local supporters.
